How does it work?
It uses a combination of radio frequency and magnetic pulses to treat the desired area. The radio frequency treatment penetrates into multiple layers of skin and dermal tissue; it heats the target tissue while treating the loose skin and creates enough energy to induce collagen production and increased circulation, which increases blood flow nutrients, and waste removal from the tissue. It causes the new formation of collagen, fibroblast synthesis and at higher temperatures, lipolysis. The active collagen in the skin contracts, causing the skin to look and feel firmer and elastin fibres unravel making it appear more elastic. Triggered collagen production continues for months after the treatment series. Pulsed electromagnet fields increase the vascularity of the skin and create new pathways for the blood to flow. This increase in blood will provide more oxygen to the skin and bring more nutrients to the tissue.
Is it a laser?
No, the venus technology uses a kinetic energy called radio frequency that when contacting the skin creates heat.
Does it hurt?
There may be some minor discomfort when using the technology for body contouring/fat reduction because the temperature must be kept at a higher level.
What areas can be treated?
Any area of the body can be treated except for directly over the thyroid glands on the neck and the breast tissue.
How much does it cost?
The cost of treatment depends on how big the area in question is and the number of treatments needed, therefore we have a sliding price scale that is discussed in consultations.
How long does it take?
The treatment time depends on how large the area is and the end goal of treatment. Time can range from 15-30 minutes per treatment and we recommend 8 treatments in total. Once a week for 8 weeks.
How soon do you see results?
Results are on a case by case basis. Some see results as soon as after the 3rd or 4th treatments while others don't see results until 1-3 months after the final treatment. This is because of each individual’s metabolism as well as the collagen synthesis process.
How do you maintain results?
One maintenance treatment is recommended every 3-4 months after the series is complete to keep up the results that were achieved.
Does everyone respond to this treatment?
No, not everyone responds to this type of treatment. 5-10% of the population will not respond to the radio frequency. There is no way to predict who will or who will not respond. There is also a portion of the population that are slow responders and it will take these people longer to see results.

Who is the best candidate for this treatment?
The best candidate for Venus Viva™ skin resurfacing treatments is someone who shows signs of skin damage or skin texture imperfections. Signs of skin damage may include scars, deep wrinkles, visible pores, stretch marks, and other conditions that affect the skin’s surface texture. Treatments are safe for all skin tones.
For safety reasons, however, an individual may not be an ideal candidate if they have any of the following:
An internal defibrillator, pacemaker, or other active electrical implant in the body
A permanent implant or injected substance around the treatment area
Active conditions in the treatment area, such as a rash
A history of skin disorders or very dry skin
A current diagnosis or history of cancer, including pre-malignant moles
Severe concurrent conditions, such as cardiac disorders
An impaired immune system
A history of disease in or around the treatment area that is stimulated by heat, such as herpes
Poorly controlled endocrine disorders, such as diabetes
An active prescription for blood thinners
A recent face lift or eyelid surgery within the past three months
A resurfacing treatment or chemical peel within the past three months
A cosmetic injection within the past two weeks
A recent dose of Advil, Tylenol, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) within the past week
A surgery within the past six months
A tattoo or permanent makeup in the treatment area
Are excessively tanned in or around the treatment area
Are pregnant or nursing
How long does the treatment take?
Each session takes just 15–30 minutes on average, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. For best results, book each appointment with some space between activities to allow the skin to stay makeup-free and sweat-free for 24 hours. Book appointments after workout or hot yoga sessions, or even before a work-from-home day, so the treated skin can focus on recovery without exposure to irritants.
What do the treatments feel like?
Venus Viva™ treatments are among the more comfortable options on the market, and they typically feel like tiny zaps or pinpricks on the skin. The treatment area will feel warm post-treatment, a sensation that may last up to 24 hours. Your treatment provider may also apply a topical numbing cream if needed for greater comfort.
How many sessions are needed to see results? Are they permanent?
Most patients see the best results after three or four treatments, each spaced four weeks apart. However, the exact number of treatments depends on the individual and the treatment area. A certified treatment provider will be able to outline the best treatment plan based on each patient’s individual needs. How long results are maintained also varies from patient to patient and is dependent on severity of the skin and post-procedure skin care. Results will continue to improve following the final treatment, though one touch-up session is recommended approximately every six months, depending on the skin’s response and the area being treated.
Is there any specific pre- or post-procedure care required?
Avoid applying lotions, creams, perfumes, powders, or makeup to the treatment area prior to each treatment. Shaving may be necessary if a patient has excessive hair in the treatment area. If possible, patients should have their complete medical history available in case it is required by the treatment provider.
Avoid applying lotions, makeup, water, or anything else to the treatment area for 24 hours post-treatment. Hot baths or showers, massages, rigorous exercise, and any activity requiring direct skin contact or causing excessive perspiration in the treatment area should be avoided for two days post-procedure. Avoid tanning before and after each treatment session, and wear sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 between treatments.

What should I expect? Does treatment hurt?
Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist can instead apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.
How much time does treatment take?
The injection process takes a quick 10 minutes. Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you.
How long is the recovery time after treatment?
Treatment requires minimal downtime. So you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office.
How many injections will I receive?
Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic is customized to your goals and needs. When you meet with your specialist, he or she will determine the appropriate treatment for any areas you wish to address, including moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. Remember, only BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved to treat all three of these areas.
For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the muscle that frames the other eye.
For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into the muscles between your brows and in your forehead.
For the forehead lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into a muscle in your forehead.
What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?
Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow's feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions.
